CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Neighbors at the Cedar Knoll Apartments are asking for increased security after a teenager was shot and killed during a birthday party.
Police were called to the 100 block of Lone Pine Lane at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
When police arrived, they found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, 17-year-old John Darrell Kempson Jr., was taken to Carolinas Medical Center Main, where he was later pronounced dead.
Neighbors told Eyewitness News that a party in the apartment complexes community room spiraled out of control.
"I'm sad about it, heartbroken about it. Cause it's a young man whose life is short, at the end of the day, his life is cut short," said Elma Redfern.
Investigators said 18-year-old Terry Sekyere got into a fight with Kempson, but it was 19-year-old Armani Compton McDonald who shot and killed Kempson.
Redfern said she hopes the apartment complex works with police to establish a curfew.
"I believe for a cut-off time, because it's too late for teenagers to be out anyway, so I'm thinking 11 p.m., midnight, it needs to be closed off. You need to be off, completely," Redfern said.
Eyewitness News checked into police records Sunday and found since last March, there's only been a handful of robberies and violent assaults near the apartment complex.
Police charged McDonald with murder and Sekyere with assault.
