CONCORD, N.C. — A crash involving a tractor-trailer shut down a major Concord road for hours overnight.
The serious wreck happened just after 2 a.m. on Concord Parkway North at Kannapolis Highway, near Interstate 85.
Channel 9 was the first to arrive on scene and could see a badly mangled car that had collided with the tractor-trailer.
The truck driver, a 25-year-old man, was driving southbound on Concord Parkway when a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr driven by a 23-year-old man made a left turn from Concord Parkway to try to merge on Kannapolis Highway.
When the two vehicles collided, they were pushed south of the intersection with the tractor-trailer stopping in the Marathon convenience store’s parking lot.
A 21-year-old passenger in the Lincoln Zephyr was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The passenger remains in critical condition at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Police said that driver impairment does not seem to be a cause of the crash, but it is still under investigation.
The road reopened just before 6 a.m.
