CONCORD, N.C.,None — Crews finished repairing a water main break on Grandview Drive in Concord by midday Wednesday.
The water main broke at about 4:30 a.m. Classes at Beverly Hill Elementary School were canceled, and surgeries at Carolinas Medical Center Northeast were delayed for part of the morning because of low water pressure.
Even after the broken water main was repaired, city officials encouraged conservation while the system's pressure was restored. Area residents may notice a discoloration in their water or experience low pressure during the restoration process, they said.
Because of the lowered pressure and system flushing, the city recommended that water customers in the Church Street and Palaside Drive area boil water that will be used for cooking and drinking. Initial tests indicate that the water is safe, officials said, but definitive tests won't be complete until Thursday.
Grandview Drive west of the Miramar Street intersection will be closed through Oct. 28 for street and sidewalk repairs. Drivers can use the detour of Miramar Street, Scenic Drive and Palaside Drive.
Customers who have questions about water quality can call the Customer Care Center at 704-920-5555.
