Driver Faces Charges In Fatal Pedestrian Crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — A pedestrian was killed when an impaired driver hit her while she was trying to cross the street, police said.

Melissa Wooten, 29, hit Rosemarie Lyle, 55, around 11 p.m. Thursday, police said. Lyle was trying to cross North Tryon Street near Guy E. Suddreth Avenue. She had just stepped off the curb and into the right outbound lane when she was hit, according to crash investigators.

Wooten stopped in a nearby parking lot and returned to the scene of the crash, police said.

Lyle was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center-Main, where she later died.

Wooten was charged with involuntary manslaughter, DWI, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
