Flood Cleanup Continues As More Storms Loom

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — A month after storms left Seldon Drive underwater, Channel 9 found the cleanup still going on, and with more urgency than ever.

"We just want to get it done … before the storm," Michael Fox said.

In neighborhoods across Mecklenburg County, the promise of more heavy rain is a cause for concern.

Perry Crawford showed Eyewitness News how high water got in his grandmother's apartment last month. The carpet and tile have been replaced, but now, he's worried another storm will ruin it all again.

"I mean, my grandma, she's talking about leaving soon," Crawford said. "It's kind of scary if it happens again."

This week, Mecklenburg County commissioners are scheduled to vote on a plan to use local money to quickly buy up some properties that flooded last month.

Larry Harris lives next to an open area created several years ago when the county bought out 13 of his neighbors. He now wants the county to buy his house, too.

"It was so high, it got up over the top of my truck right there. Over the top of it," Harris said.

But because last month's flood didn't get inside his house, the county has already sent Harris a letter denying his request for a buyout.

"It's very disappointing to me and the residents around here that would like to get out of here," Harris said.
