SHELBY, N.C.,None — A former North Shelby School teacher accused of having sex with a 19-year-old student told a judge she's a changed woman.
Police charged 29-year-old Nicole Chapman last May with taking indecent liberties with a student at North Shelby, which is a school for students with mental and physical handicaps.
At Chapman's original sentencing hearing, she entered a guilty plea to taking indecent liberties with a student and committing a sex offense with a student.
On Monday, Chapman told a judge that treatment has made her a different person.
"I'm not the same Nicole," she said. "I can tell, and my family can tell, I'm a different person thanks to the help I've gotten."
Channel 9's newspaper partner, The Shelby Star, reported that Chapman was sentenced to six to 12 months in jail.
