1 killed and 4 others injured including a CMPD officer in I-85 collision in north Charlotte, officials say

CHARLOTTE — One person was killed in a vehicle collision shortly after midnight on I-85 South near the Sugar Creek exit in Charlotte, officials said.

A CMPD officer was also involved in the accident and was taken to the hospital. The officer is expected to be okay.

Three others had non-life-threatening injuries.

It happened at about 12:30 a.m. Friday and three of the four lanes on I-85 S were shut down. All lanes have since reopened.

There was a wreck that happened about an hour earlier in the same area. Four people were taken to CMC Main. It is unclear if the two incidents were related.
