CHARLOTTE — A 16-year-old girl was charged on Monday in connection with her involvement in a school threat against Phillip O. Berry Academy, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Last Friday morning, a parent who notified school officials said the threat was made on Instagram. The school resource officer and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives spoke with the witness and then tracked down the girl and charged her with making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property.

“CMPD continues to urge parents to speak with their children and come forward with information that affects the safety and learning environment within any school,” officials said in a news release.
