2 local deputies shot in the line of duty greet President Trump during Charlotte visit

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — President Donald Trump packed a lot into his visit to Charlotte Friday afternoon.

He thanked first responders, signed an executive order and attended a fundraiser.

Caldwell County Deputy Jordan Sherrill and Cleveland County Deputy Tim Sims greeted the president after he landed in Air Force One.

The deputies were shot in the line of duty during separate incidents this summer.

"Glad to be here today,” Sims said. “I appreciate our Congressman Mark Meadows for letting us be here.  It's fantastic. It's really been a treat.”

The Police Benevolent Foundation and State Association created the Deputy Timothy Sims Recovery Fund to help with his mounting medical bills.

Trump signed an executive order on the Harris campus of CPCC to help secure Americans' retirement.

It will help small businesses form partnerships to establish 401(k) plans for workers.

He rounded out his trip with a political fundraiser, where he supported Republican congressional candidates Mark Harris and Ted Budd.

The president added he looks forward to the Republican National Convention in Charlotte in 2020.
