2 teenagers charged with shooting at CMPD officers in Steele Creek

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said it has arrested two teenagers accused of shooting at officers in Steele Creek.

Chris’Tavious Xaviour Caldwell, 18, and Jamari Xavier Young, 18, are charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer.

Officials said two officers responded to a home along Hatton Cross Drive around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

They were investigating a separate incident and standing near a marked CMPD patrol car when police said someone began shooting several rounds at them.

Investigators said the officers took cover while the suspects took off in a vehicle. The officers never fired back.

Police said a home was hit by the gunfire and shell casings were laying near the intersection of Hatton Cross Drive and Weatherstone Circle.

No one was hurt.

Caldwell and Young are in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Caldwell is also charged with shooting into an occupied property and felony conspiracy. Young is also charged with shooting into an occupied property.

Police said more charges are possible.
