2 workers at Charlotte Wells Fargo call center test positive for COVID-19

CHARLOTTE — The Channel 9 newsroom has been fielding phone calls about COVID-19 from people in different work environments, including from the Wells Fargo call center on West W.T. Harris Boulevard.

Employees at the Wells Fargo call center learned on Tuesday that two coworkers had tested positive for the coronavirus.

“We were told to continue to work, wipe our desks down,” an employee told Channel 9.

She's one of half a dozen employees or family members of workers who said they don't think Wells Fargo has done enough since the two employees tested positive.

“We sit very close to each other,” the employee said. “Our desks are (close) together. If you're sitting at your desk, you can touch the other person's desk.

She and others said Wells Fargo has had crews come in and clean, but they don't think the cleaners did a very thorough job.

“So, a lot of us don't feel safe,” she said.

The employee said they still must work to provide for their families.

Rob Quick works for a contractor doing renovations in the building after hours.

“We're still seeing a lot of people from the call center in there,” Quick said.

He said they don’t have dust masks that are standard for construction work, but out of stock now.

“We're just doing our normal job and not only are we putting ourselves at risk of the virus, now, but we also don't have our proper PPE,” Quick said. “So, we're kind of at double risk here.”

Wells Fargo sent Channel 9 a statement saying they’re trying to set up more employees to work from home and for those who can’t, it said, “We are taking significant actions to ensure safety, including enhancing social-distancing measures, staggering staff and shifts and implementing an enhanced cleaning program.”
