3 die in I-77 wreck caused by wrong-way driver

WINNSBORO, S.C. — (AP) Authorities say three people have died in a wreck caused by a 28-year-old woman who was drinking on her birthday and drove the wrong way on Interstate 77 in Fairfield County.

Investigators said Takeya Taylor, of Columbia, was driving the wrong way around 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of I-77 about five miles from Winnsboro when she hit another vehicle head on.

The coroner's office says Taylor was killed, along with the driver of the other car, 48-year-old Lisa Jefferson, and one of her passengers, 46-year-old Wallace Green. A third passenger remains in the hospital.

Investigators say it appears Taylor, whose birthday was Thursday, had been drinking alcohol before the crash.

State troopers are still investigating the wreck.
