3 former high school football players accused of robbing woman in home

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Armed with a gun and a baseball bat, police said former football players broke into a home and robbed a woman.

Channel 9 spoke with families who said they are shocked the teenagers were involved.

The three teens are students at Foard High School in Newton and recently quit the football team. Official identified them as Khalil Green, Mykah Harrington and Trenton McPherson.

Jonnie Gilbert shows Channel 9 photos of her grandson who played football at the high school.

Instead of taking the field Friday he is sitting in jail one of three former players from the school accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint inside this home in southeast Hickory.

"He's an awesome kid. He's got a big heart. He'd do anything for anybody,” Gilbert said. “When his mom told me this yesterday it just shocked me because he's such a good kid."

According to the arrest warrants, the teenagers used a black pistol and baseball bat to rob the woman of her money.

When Channel 9 contacted the head football coach by phone Friday, he said the three teens no longer are on the team, quitting shortly before the alleged incident happened.

Police said the crime was not random and that the teens who did not know the victim may have known someone else at the home.

Gilbert said she and other family plan on being in court when the teenagers face a judge Monday.

"This is my grandson. This isn’t Trent. This is my grandson and this can't be true,” she said.
