CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Gas prices in the Charlotte area have jumped more than 30 cents in the past month, according to AAA.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas on Wednesday was $3.57.
AAA officials said issues in the Middle East and refineries choosing to produce less fuel are contributing to the increase.
But North Carolina also added eight cents in state and federal taxes at the beginning of the year.
"Roughly 10 cents a gallon in addition to all the pressures," AAA Carolinas spokesman Tom Crosby said. "So North Carolinians got hit twice."
Crosby said January 2012 was the most expensive January for gas in North Carolina history.
