Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson gets upgrades with help of Stephen Curry’s foundation

DAVIDSON, N.C. — A resource for families in north Mecklenburg County received a revamp courtesy of NBA star Stephen Curry.

The final touches are underway at the Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson, a hub for social services in the area.

Funded by Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. foundation, renovations to the center’s gym were planned to give kids a safe space to grow.

“Hopefully they can find some inspiration here,” said Harold Rice, executive director for the Ada Jenkins Center.

Curry’s connection to the center span back to his days at Davidson College when he’d volunteer with children there.

The former school that served as the center’s hub is more than 100 years old. Inside is much needed help for people in need, including emergency rent and bill assistance, a food pantry and classroom support for students.

“We want to make sure it serves out students, but also the community,” Rice said.

On Saturday afternoon, the Ada Jenkins Center will celebrate the renovation with a big reveal from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Games, contests, music and refreshments are expected in the new gym at 212 Gamble Street in Davidson.
