Blue Cross Blue Shield dropping 2 plans in 11 NC counties

NORTH CAROLINA — Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina has promised to release more details this week after it announced it was taking away two popular Medicare plans.

The company is dropping the standard and the enhanced HMO plans for 11 counties in North Carolina, including Iredell and Rowan counties.

Customers said they need those options and are worried what they'll do now.

"I tore it open and looked at it and said, 'What? I'm going to lose this insurance?' It's the cheapest I've ever had," said William Johnson.

Blue Cross Blue Shield said last week that it knows it's confusing and apologized for the inconvenience.

The company said it would release more information Oct. 1.
