‘Bobcat Bandit’ accused of leading NC deputies on slow-speed chase on stolen machine

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. — A man dubbed the “Bobcat Bandit" has been arrested after leading officers on an extremely slow-speed chase on a stolen machine through the streets of Wilmington Wednesday night.

New Hanover County deputies said Adarious Walker stole a Bobcat machine and got up to a whopping 5 mph during the hour-long chase.

Deputies couldn’t use their typical tactics like spike stops or a PIT maneuver so they had to get creative, according to our news partner WWAY.

“The first option was let it run out of gas,” said Lt. Jerry Brewer. “Once we saw that was going on for some time and that wasn’t really a good option. There was an issue with the track that was keeping him stalled for a second. That’s when we were able to pepper spray him and get him stopped.”

Walker faces a handful of charges and is being held at the New Hanover County Jail.
