The body of a University of South Carolina student has been found in Peru.
Seth Thomas, a second-year medical student, died in a hiking accident in Peru, U.S. and Peruvian officials said.
Thomas, 24, was working with a Peruvian nonprofit to improve women’s health in a clinical program through Augusta University.
Thomas was scheduled to return to the United States next week.
"It is so tragic that someone who was dedicating his life to help those in need was taken from us before he could achieve his life's dreams," USC President Harris Pastides said.
The U.S. Embassy in Peru is assisted in the search efforts.
