BOONE, N.C. — Police in Boone confirmed they’ve identified the driver in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured two people Wednesday night along West King Street.
The sidewalk in downtown Boone ends roughly 50 yards from where the crash happened. Channel 9’s Dave Faherty was able to see pieces of the vehicle in a nearby gravel parking lot.
Investigators said Deedra McCullough and Joshua Dotson were struck and seriously hurt while walking along the road. The driver accused of running off the road and hitting them fled the scene.
Police say they are now consulting with the district attorney about possible charges in the case.
Faherty spoke with McCullough’s brother, Luke Turbeville, on the phone Monday. He said his sister has extensive injuries and hopes the driver comes forward.
“I understand that people make mistakes, and people can change,” he said. “You know, it seems hard, but it’s not something that is too hard to overcome and, kind of, face yourself, clear your conscience and move on with your life.”
The Boone Police Department is expected to release more details about their investigation Monday afternoon.
