Brick thrown off I-77 bridge smashes couple's windshield

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A couple's car was damaged Tuesday night when they said someone threw a brick off the Interstate 77 overpass onto Interstate 85.

"All I heard was 'Bang' and then glass shattered everywhere," victim Justin Boyd said.

Boyd showed Channel 9 the damage to his windshield after the terrifying incident Tuesday night while he and his wife were heading home after dinner.

"(The) only thing I could think of was shielding my wife to make sure she was OK," Boyd said. "Ducking all in the same motion but also looking at my surroundings, trying to make sure she didn't swerve and hit another car and cause an accident."

Boyd and his wife weren't hurt.

They decided to keep driving home, because they didn't feel comfortable stopping along the shoulder of I-85 where it wasn't well-lit. They called Charlotte-Mecklenburg police once they got home and filed a report.

The brick caused approximately $300 worth of damage to the couple's SUV.

Channel 9 asked CMPD if there were other reports of similar incidents and if anyone has been arrested. A spokesperson simply replied that no one has been arrested in connection to the case.

"It's a frustrating thing to know that it is a possibility they will never catch who did it," Boyd said.
