Cabarrus County health officials concerned with rising COVID cases, hospitalizations

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — For most of the summer it appeared that COVID-19 was on the run in Cabarrus County, but now the virus has come back with a vengeance.

“I think we’re encroaching on the peak. I think things are escalating quickly,” said Marcella Beam with Cabarrus Health Alliance.

The Cabarrus County Fair was canceled this week, and the county had issued a mask mandate at its facilities.

In North Carolina, health officials reported nearly 8,600 new cases on Friday, and the seven-day average continues to climb. Currently, there are 3,800 people in the hospital with COVID-19. Those were the kinds of numbers seen during the winter peak.
