CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The long-awaited City Lynx gold line will open Tuesday.

The Charlotte Area Transit System will celebrate the new line with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Time Warner Cable arena plaza.

The first 1.5 miles of the gold line will officially open at 1 p.m.

U.S. Transportation Secretary and former Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx will join Mayor Dan Clodfelter for the first ride following the ceremony.

The streetcar will run from uptown to Presbyterian Hospital and Elizabeth Avenue.

Ambassadors will be stationed along the tracks for the first several nights to teach people how to safely navigate around the train.
