CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Man, woman seen breaking into Gastonia home

GASTONIA, N.C. — Gaston County police are searching for a man and a woman captured on video breaking into a home.

Police released surveillance video that was taken Saturday afternoon across the street from the burglarized house on Oates Road in Gastonia.

Channel 9 spoke to the homeowner who said her and her 67-year-old mother have lived there for more than 40 years.

"You have violated me in more ways than one," said the homeowner who did not want to be identified.

The video shows a Ford Windstar van driving around the corner and the woman goes running up to the house, as if she’s checking to see if anyone is home. Then the van pulls into the driveway, and the woman and a man get out and go into the home.

The homeowner said it's hard to see the video of someone else walking into her home.

"You just never dream it would happen to you," she said.

About five minutes later, the pair are seen coming out of the home with items from the house.

The homeowner said the two took items given to her by her now deceased grandparents and father.

"Just sentimental stuff you can't get back," she said. "Just bring them back. There is no connection to you."

Police said the Ford Windstar van the two thieves were driving has damage behind the front passenger side wheel well.

Anyone with information on the break-in is asked to contact Detective J.P. Brienza at 704-866-3391, the Gaston County Police Department at 704-866-3320, or Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
