CHARLOTTE — Celebrity chef David Burke is shifting his focus in Charlotte and closing a three-year-old uptown concept as a result.
Burke told Charlotte Business Journal that Red Salt by David Burke and Cloud Bar ceased operations on Aug. 6. Cloud Bar opened in August 2020, followed in September of that year by Red Salt. Both were located inside Le Meridien hotel at 555 S McDowell St.
Burke said both establishments did well from the start, but the pandemic quickly hindered business at Le Meridien, which effected Red Salt and Cloud Bar. He tried pivoting the menu to include have a more Southern, tavern feel, but it just didn’t work.
He’s now turning attention to a new project in SouthPark.
