FORT MILL, S.C. — An Atrium Health project in Fort Mill is getting bigger.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Hospital Authority is asking to add about 10 more acres to its Atrium Health Fort Mill Development, bringing their total property to 94.4 acres near Sutton Road and I-77.
In addition to the four-story tower hospital with 60 bed spaces and 15 emergency bays, the site will also feature between 250,000 and 600,000-square-feet of commercial development, up to 300 apartments or condos, and a connection to the nearby Carolina Thread Trail.
Neighbor Meghann Wiles says she’s eager to learn more about the project and how it will ultimately impact her community.
“This is a high traffic area as well,” she said.
Planning documents say a traffic study is being updated right now.
Atrium has said there is a need for more access to emergency and critical health services in South Carolina.
They’ve said a high percentage of patients in its Pineville hospital travel there from South Carolina.
