Charlotte officials meet Monday about Google Fiber installation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte city leaders will decide Monday whether to take the first step to set up the new Google Fiber network.

City council members are expected to vote on installing 21 network huts on city properties.

The huts will help facilitate internet and television services.

They'll go throughout the city in places like wastewater treatment plants, Eastland Mall and the police and fire training academy. After Google announced it's bringing a fiber network to Charlotte, Channel 9 looked into complaints from

other cities about the installation process.

Some Kansas City, Kansas, residents filed complaints after installers tore up yards, sidewalks and even utility lines during the process.

Google told Channel 9 it has learned from past mistakes.

Right now it's not clear how long it could take to set up the system.

We did find out it took about a year for Google to set up its fiber service in Kansas City and Provo, Utah.

Channel 9 will bring you the decision from Monday's vote both online and on air.

Google created a page for Charlotte neighborhoods to receive updates and show interest for the service. Click here to visit the page.
