CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Post Foundation has named Maya McClain its top high school senior for 2026.
McClain graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in May and recently began her freshman year at North Carolina A&T State University.
As the first person in her family to attend college, McClain is enrolled in the honors biology program and hopes to become a pediatrician.
“I believe that healthy habits start when we are young, and I feel that a lot of the healthcare disparities in our community are because we don’t have the healthy habits like eating healthy and getting proper exercise, so as a pediatrician, I want to lay that foundation for children in our community to be healthy and avoid those issues down the road,” McClain said.
McClain said she wants to help address health disparities by encouraging healthy habits early in life and hopes to make a difference in her community through pediatric medicine.
