Charlotte workers hit in Better.com’s latest round of layoffs

CHARLOTTE — Layoffs at Better.com have again hit the Charlotte area.

The digital mortgage company announced its second round of layoffs in about three months on Monday. More than 3,000 people in the United States and India were cut this week out of the company’s roughly 9,000 employees — or about 35% of its workforce. Some employees reportedly learned about the layoffs before the official notice when severance pay appeared in their bank accounts.

The Charlotte Business Journal has confirmed the layoffs affected local employees, although it is unclear how many. It is likely there were hundreds of people laid off.
