Cheslie Kryst’s mother talks about daughter’s mental health struggles on Red Table Talk

For the first time, Cheslie Kryst’s mother is speaking out after her daughter’s death by suicide.

Kryst was Miss USA, an attorney, a Carolina native and community advocate.

Her mother, April Simpkins, went on Facebook’s Red Table Talk to discuss Kryst’s past struggles with mental health. She also read the final message her daughter sent moments before her death.

“I’ve fought against depression for a long time, but it’s won this time around. There aren’t enough words in the world to describe my love and appreciation for you. You are the perfect mom, and I will love you forever, even in death. Feel free to share this message. People should know that you’re the best mom in the world and that you were the best mom to me that I ever could have hoped for,” the message said.

In the interview, Simpkins and her husband set the record straight about Kryst’s cause of death.
