STANLEY, N.C. — Officers are investigating after a teenager found a body along train tracks in Stanley.
The body was discovered near the tracks in the 800 block of North Main Street near the intersection with Mariposa Road on Thursday afternoon.
Officials identified the person killed as Filverto Beck, 29.
Police said they believe Beck was walking to a convenience store. He had lost hearing in one ear and was known to walk on the tracks listening to music or talking on the phone.
Officials said they don’t think they heard the train. The train conductor was unaware he hit someone, according to Stanley police.
Authorities said the teenager ran to Black’s Auto Sales across the street and told adults there, who called 911.
