CHARLOTTE — A manufacturer of electrical components is moving its headquarters to Charlotte and will establish its first U.S. manufacturing facility here.

Shemar Electric USA is investing $15 million into a 94,640-square-foot manufacturing facility and headquarters at 11125 Metromont Parkway in north Charlotte. It will create 80 jobs and begin hiring later this month. It will add roles for engineering, maintenance, supply chain, warehousing and technical and business support.

The company’s previous headquarters were in Memphis, Tennessee. It closed that site earlier this year, Shemar Electric USA CEO Justin Jin said.

Founded in 1996, Shemar Electric USA is the North American operation of China-based Shemar Electric. It makes composite insulation, transmission line and grid protection components used in substations and energy distribution systems. Composite insulators prevent an electrical current from flowing to the ground.
