2 homicides under investigation in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to two homicides and a double shooting within minutes of each other Thursday night, officials stated.

One investigation was along Blythwood Lane near Lawyers Road in east Charlotte. The other was on Blendwood Drive and The Plaza in north Charlotte.

Channel 9′s Almiya White spoke with neighbors about the deadly shooting on Blythwood Lane. One said she lived just a few feet away and heard gunshots while inside her home.

“I looked out the window. And sure enough, we just saw people running and scattering from the house, and I told my husband somebody was lying down there,” May said.

Another neighbor expressed his concerns about the gun violence because it was unusual for the area. He said he hoped this would be the last shooting in the area.

“If it continued to happen, that would be the concern, I think because you want the kids to be able to feel safe in their own neighborhood,” Billie Simmons said.

Police told White that those involved in the Blythwood Lane shooting knew each other and there was no threat to the community.

There was also a double shooting on Augusta Street in west Charlotte. One person had life-threatening injuries and the other person’s injuries were not life-threatening, MEDIC said. They were taken to Atrium Health Main.

No further information was released.
