Arrest made after man found shot to death in his driveway on New Year's Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Deangelo Morgan, 33, after they say he shot and killed a man who was sitting in a car in the driveway of his home on New Year's Day.

Police charged Morgan Thursday with the murder of 37-year-old Nathan Roberts.

Detectives said Roberts was sitting in his vehicle in the driveway of his home on Parkway Avenue when he was shot multiple times.

Parkway Avenue was shut down in west Charlotte as police collected evidence from the scene of the shooting, which happened around 4:30 a.m.

Paramedics rushed Roberts to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. CMPD said the man was pronounced dead at Carolina's Medical Center.

Channel 9 crews could see crime tape roping off Parkway Avenue and dozens of evidence markers in the street.

Morgan was also charged with discharging a weapon into occupied property and is expected to appear in court Thursday afternoon.

Investigators have not released a motive.
