CMPD uses Taser to arrest machete-armed suspect in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said they used a stun gun to arrest a suspect armed with a machete Tuesday morning in east Charlotte.

Hickory Grove Division officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call around 9:30 a.m. near the McDonald's on Albemarle Road.

According to officials, the 911 caller told police that the suspect was armed with a firearm and machete.

Upon arrival, officers said they found a suspect armed with a machete, and when the suspect failed to drop the weapon, officers used a stun gun.

No injuries to bystanders or responding officers were reported.

CMPD later identified the suspect as Correy Watson.

Police said he is facing multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon.
