CMS administrator attacked by students runs for school board

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools administrator whose attack by students was caught on video at Harding High School last year is vying for a new position.

The Black Political Caucus on Sunday endorsed Annette Albright for CMS School Board.

“I still have a lot to offer CMS,” Albright said.

She is running in a district where she worked for three years.

“I felt like that time was cut short,” she said.

Albright said she was terminated after the fight that was recorded on a cellphone.

“You can watch the video and tell that something really bad went wrong,” she said.

She said she was the victim and addressing the issue of violence in schools is part of her platform.

“When you're looking at 301 assaults during (the) 2015 -2016 school year, then you know something is happening bad,” Albright said.

Albright also wants to work on communication at CMS because after the incident, she said she reached out to the district repeatedly and got no response.

“Now I know how a parent feels when they are desperately trying to get their child educational services and no one would even return a call or acknowledge that they are important,” Albright said.

She is ready to serve now that she has the endorsement from the Black Political Caucus.

“I would be that board member or email and acknowledge that someone is trying to solicit my help,” Albright said.

Two the students involved in the fight had their cases dismissed because there wasn't enough evidence, one student was found guilty and the fourth pleaded guilty.
