CMS board member stands by decision to vote out superintendent

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board member Dr. Charlitta Hatch is speaking out for the first time after making the motion to add a vote on whether to fire Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill to Tuesday night’s agenda.

“Decisions have been made,” she said. “We all have to live with them and be held accountable for how we voted.

Hatch stands by the decision to vote Hill out.

“I have lessons learned from this experience that I want to take with me, and I’m glad that everybody is reflecting of their role, and how we can move forward together.”

Hill was fired during the board meeting.

On Wednesday, Channel 9 spoke with Board members Lenora Shipp, Dr. Monty Witherspoon, and Cynthia Stone, three of the four who voted against firing Dr. Hill.

The fourth was Anna London.

The three who Channel 9 spoke with said the board mishandled the situation after Hill was reinstated from her suspension.

Channel 9 also asked North Carolina Superintendent Mo Green for any reaction to the turmoil within CMS. His office said he had no comment.

North Carolina State Auditor Dave Boliek is investigating CMS and confirmed he’s looking into what he calls “financial irregularities” in the district.

He said the investigation started three weeks before Hill released her memo with claims of misspending and cronyism.

He said his office is working with the SBI.
