Community members say housing authority isn’t keeping apartments safe

CHARLOTTE — Mentors with West Boulevard Ministry said Inlivian, the Charlotte housing authority that owns and operates the Little Rock Apartments, is not doing enough to keep its residents safe.

A shootout disrupted a quiet morning on Tuesday at the apartments off West Boulevard.

“And by the grace of God, nobody has died,” said Bart Noonan, with West Boulevard Ministry.

Noonan and Charles Robinson, also with the ministry, mentor several children who live at the Little Rock Apartments.

“(Inlivian) got to bring back security or somebody is going to die and that’s the bottom line,” Robinson said.

“I don’t want anyone who sees what’s going on and ... to think that we are just sitting back,” said Cheron Porter, a spokesperson for Inlivian.

Cameras watch the property, Porter said.

“We have cameras that surveil the property and we have people who monitor those cameras 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Porter said.

Robinson said under the prior ownership there was uniformed security on the property.

“CMPD is understaffed so they can’t be your security,” Robinson said. “You got to pay somebody to come out there and watch the property and help CMPD out.”

“We’re dealing with real bullets,” Noonan said. “Real-time, Real individuals watching it. Supposedly remotely or are they watching it? I don’t know. We’re definitely in a dire situation.”
