Construction starting soon on South End apartment tower

Portman Holdings released new renderings of the 24-story multifamily tower that will replace Sycamore Brewing at 2161 Hawkins St.

CHARLOTTE — Construction on a 24-story apartment tower at 2161 Hawkins St., currently home to Sycamore Brewing, is slated to begin next month.

Portman Holdings released a new rendering Thursday and detailed its plans to break ground on the project in October after Sycamore moves into its new space at The Line, a 318,000-square-foot Class-A office tower that opened earlier this year.

Plans for 2161 Hawkins include 370 luxury residential units,18,700 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space and an activated plaza and green space that will take shape between 2161 Hawkins and The Line.

The tower is expected to deliver in the third quarter of 2024.
