Construction tractors burned along SC highway, law enforcement looking for arson suspect

CHERAW, S.C. — Two tractors used for construction along a South Carolina highway were burned in an apparent arson and law enforcement is asking for the public’s help to find the person responsible.

The equipment was staged along U.S. Highway 52 near Midway Road in Cheraw last month when it was set on fire, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The tractors were being used by Lynches River Contracting, Inc. to repave northbound lanes of U.S. 52 in Chesterfield County.

On March 16, just before 8 p.m., law enforcement says a passing driver called reporting the two tractors were on fire. SLED, along with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, is asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious to contact authorities.

Law enforcement did not say why they believe the fire was arson or what the motive may have been.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest. Anonymous tips can be submitted on the P3 Tips app, online at PeeDeeCrimeStoppers.com or by calling 888-274-6372.
