CHARLOTTE — More than 1,000 gallons of wastewater overflow have reached Taggart Creek in the Catawba River Watershed, according to Charlotte Water.
Crews were called to Morris Field Drive on Sunday afternoon for an overflow.
Charlotte Water says the overflow was caused by a blockage of tree roots.
Cam Coley, a spokesperson for Charlotte Water, said most of the wastewater overflow is preventable.
“A majority of wastewater overflows can be prevented with your help,” Coley said. “Anything put in the plumbing or a manhole can cause wastewater overflows, spilling raw sewage into your street, your creek, or even inside your own home. Even products labeled as ‘flushable’ do not break down in the sewer system and can contribute to clogging.”
