Crews to begin Westinghouse Boulevard railroad crossing repairs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Crews will begin repairing loose bolts and splitting wood at railroad crossings along Westinghouse Boulevard Sunday.

The repairs are expected to finish by Wednesday.

There are five railroad crossings that are expected to see improvements.

The crossings include between Goodrich Drive and Freuhauf Drive, Wilmar Boulevard and Granite Street, I-77 and Texland Boulevard, and between Downs Road and Rodney Street.

Channel 9's Gina Esposito has been covering issues at the railroad crossings since May.

Residents and people who work nearby have complained of unsafe conditions at several railroad crossings.

The tracks are filled with splitting wood, missing bolts, and potholes.

Drivers have said its caused damage to their cars and accidents.

In May, Norfolk Southern told Channel 9 repairs would start in the coming weeks, but it has been months.

NCDOT said the delay was due to discussions surrounding the type of crossing repair, what time of day to do the work, and cost sharing.

Work is scheduled to take place at night between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

The work was initially going to begin last Wednesday, but was delayed due to weather.
