HICKORY, N.C. — Catawba Valley Community College evacuated its campus Wednesday because of a “perceived threat.”
The school posted a message about the mandatory evacuation on its website on Wednesday afternoon. The school’s main and east campuses were evacuated.
Students, faculty and staff were notified by college personnel, emergency text messaging, loud speaker announcements, an in-house TV system and by email, officials said.
Classes on Wednesday have been canceled, officials said.
Officials said they plan to resume normal operating hours on Thursday. They have not elaborated on the perceived threat.
