Deputies: 30 arrested in Kings Mountain drug sting

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Eyewitness News was with police when they pulled up to a Kings Mountain home and arrested a man inside. He's charged with selling cocaine, but he told Eyewitness News he's innocent.

On Friday, the Kings Mountain Police Department and Cleveland County Sheriff's Office worked on arresting and processing dozens of people. They say they are charging 30 people in what is called "Operation Summer Time Blues."

Authorities said they are trying to get drugs out of the area.

"It declines and decays a community," said Kings Mountain Police Chief Melvin Proctor.

Police said they are charging people for possessing, manufacturing, and selling drugs from methamphetamine and prescription pills to cocaine and marijuana. Investigators say they used undercover officers and tips from residents in the effort.

"We will put you in jail, and put you in jail, and put you in jail until you come around or you are there permanently. Or you can leave," Proctor said.

A neighbor that witnessed one of the arrests told Eyewitness News that she hopes the crackdown continues.

"I hope they get them all, get them all and lock them up. Don't just smack them on the hand, take them," said Rachel Pope of Kings Mountain.

Proctor said the work with continue. He said another operation targeting drugs is already underway.
