LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies were investigating an overnight shooting that left one man hospitalized in Lincoln County.
Authorities said it happened on Maralane Trail around 2:30 a.m.
Deputies told Channel 9 that 44-year-old Charles Harvell and 58-year-old George Lovell had been out for a night of drinking at Twin Oaks Bar and Grill and that the shooting started as a fight between the two when they returned home on Maralane Trail.
Deputies said Lovell ran to a neighbor's home around 2:40 a.m. and asked them to call 911 because he had just shot Harvell. He was taken into custody without incident when deputies arrived.
Officials said Harvell was shot in the chest and flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was listed in stable condition.
Lovell was taken before a Lincoln County Magistrate and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond.
He will appear before a judge Tuesday morning.
