GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A mother is wanted by police on felony child abuse charges, Gaston County police said.
Police said Taylor Rainer Wilhelm, of Diana Road in Cherryville, has warrants stemming from abuse of her then-14-month-old child in January and February.
She was living with Matthew Paul Jenkins in those months when she said she noticed bruises and swelling on the child's face, head and eyes, police said. Wilhelm took the child to Caromont Regional Medical Center to be examined and the child was transferred to Levine's Children Hospital.
The child suffered from blunt force trauma, officials said.
On March 11, Jenkins, of Weaver Dairy Road in Bessemer City, was arrested, and charged with felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury and assault on a child under 12 as a result of that investigation.
On March 16, warrants were issued for Wilhelm, who police said was no longer cooperating with investigators and her whereabouts are unknown.
The child is in foster care under the supervision of Health and Human Services of Gaston County.
Jenkins was given a $250,000 secured bond.
