MONROE, N.C. — Pappas Properties and Terwilliger Pappas are planning a mixed-use development that would bring new homes, shops and a national grocer to Monroe.

The Charlotte-based developers are requesting annexation and planned unit development rezoning for 172 acres along Weddington Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. to facilitate the project. The site is about two miles from downtown Monroe.

A hearing for the annexation and rezoning request was deferred from Monroe City Council’s Oct. 13 meeting to Nov. 10.

Pappas will use that time to coordinate with its prospective grocery anchor and refine the community’s development plans. It will also finalize additional details regarding the proposed off-site transportation improvements, which are expected to cost approximately $5 million.

The identity of the grocer has not been revealed yet.
