Donald Trump's son says family thinking about expanding in uptown Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A popular national name is expanding in Charlotte.

The Trumps already opened a golf course in Mooresville.

Now, there is Trump International Realty.

Channel 9 anchor Blair Miller sat down with Donald Trump's son, Eric, who said their future plans for Charlotte could include a change to the uptown skyline.

Trump visited Mooresville on Thursday to oversee the golf club he and his father bought nearly two years ago.

Thursday's visit was all business.

"We want to make it special. It's got to be the best. We only buy thing shat have the potential to be number one," Trump said.

He said the Trump Organization not only has its eye on Mooresville, but also a new realty company that is opening now at Lake Norman.

They are also in negotiations for two other properties in the state.

Trump and his father are quick to say they clearly want to do more business in North Carolina.

They point to Charlotte's airport, the city's growth in population and because they said they get good deals.

"It's not something you necessarily see in every single state. Some states, quite frankly, aren't as friendly as North Carolina and certainly this area right here," Trump said.

A few years ago, Trump was close to building a 72-story tower in uptown.

It would have been the tallest, but Donald backed out because of the uncertainty in the economy.

Now, his son said they are ready to reconsider doing business along North Tryon Street.

"I wouldn't be surprised to see a skyscraper there at some point.  Maybe not in a month, maybe not in a year, but at some point we will definitely be in Charlotte," Trump said.

Trump also told Channel 9 his family is planning to buy a home in Mooresville.

They are deciding between a couple of homes near their golf course.
