CHARLOTTE — Nearly everyone has a phone in their pocket, so when the unexpected happens with law enforcement, it’s often caught on camera.

But is recording police always legal, even if it’s in a public place?

“There’s all these questions that I get often from folks about what are my rights with that?” one attorney told Channel 9.

Channel 9 is investigating the rules and risks of filming, and the one thing you should never do, especially at night.
