Driver clips utility pole, leaving hundreds without power in south Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Duke Energy crews are working to restore power to nearly 400 people in a south Charlotte neighborhood after a driver crashed into a utility pole Thursday night.

Officers said the driver hit the pole around 10 p.m. on Carmel Road at Johnston Road.

Police told Channel 9 that the driver clipped the pole, causing the power lines to hang low over the road.

Duke Energy officials expect repairs to last until at least 9 a.m.

The driver was taken to the hospital, but authorities said that person will be OK.

There was no word yet on what caused the crash or if any charges will be filed.
