Driver killed, another seriously injured in head-on crash near Salisbury

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A driver was killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on crash near Salisbury, state troopers said.

A Honda driven by 45-year-old Jerry Overcash was heading north on South Main Street near Camp Road around 4 p.m. when it crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit a Nissan head-on, killing the driver, 23-year-old Deasha Jones, according to investigators.

The road was shut down for hours after the wreck.

Chopper 9 flew over the scene of the crash and could see that the frontends of both cars were completely crushed in.

It does not appear speed was a factor in the collision, according to troopers.
